The Electoral Office - this site includes information on how to contact your local Area Electoral Office and how to register to vote.  It also contains details about electoral procedures, previous election results and information on candidates.  You can check if your name is on the electoral register and apply for an electoral identity card online.

The Guardian - Unlike most newspapers The Guardian offers free access to all of its articles going back to 1998 and is updated daily. If you know what you are looking for the archive search function makes it particularly easy to find it.

The BBC - The BBC's website is particularly good for world news. There is also a profile of every country in the world, which would be useful to anyone planning on travelling or volunteering abroad.

Global Issues - lots of information on issues of global concern including international trade, human rights, the environment and geopolitical issues such as arms trade, conflicts in Africa and the Middle East and the 'War on Terror.'

British Youth Council - the national youth council for young people aged under 25 in the UK. BYC brings young people together to agree on issues of common concern and encourages them to bring about change through collective action.

Students Partnership Worldwide - offers young people aged 17 - 25 the opportunity to take part in international development programmes for periods of up to 8months in 7 different countries in Africa and Asia.
