On the 15th of February the Belfast Telegraph printed an article drawing our attention to the lack of knowledge which our young people have of the true cost of living. It was discovered that the majority of teenagers probably know the cost of an Apple iPod but they would not know the cost of something as simple as a pint of milk. This is a worrying fact as British teenagers (according to financial experts Seasame) are a very influential consumer force within our society.
In response to this Sesame have Launch a book called ‘Money, Money, Money’ and this is aimed to help teenagers have a better understanding of life and money. The book also covers different worldwide topics such as third world debt and even how to buy a mobile phone. From the research that Seasame carried out on teenagers understanding of living, they found that 77% of teenagers do not know the cost of a pint of milk (30p) and 34% of these teens actually thought it cost up to £1, whilst two thirds knew that an iPod costs £179.
